Mt. Shasta Vista Fire Company 2010 Volunteer of the Year for Merit is Captain Tom Davis
By: Assistant Fire Chief  Dan Jordan

Almost 20 years ago Tom Davis joined the Board of Directors for the Mt. Shasta Vista Volunteer Fire Department and also started his career as a volunteer Firefighter. After a short time on the Board, Tom left the Board to concentrate on firefighting.   We are guessing that being a volunteer Firefighter is in his blood, as his father, his brother and even a brother in law all have been or currently are paid or volunteer firefighters. Tom is married to Kathy Davis who was the Mt. Shasta Vista recipient for the award last year.

Tom is one of those Firefighters that is well respected by his peers, is always willing and able to assist newer firefighters in learning how things work best and he provides an education as to why something is done a certain way. His attendance at training and his response to all types of incidents we get  is excellent.

Whether it’s the wild land fire on A-12 or having been called to go to the Oakland Hills fire, Tom will be there, and you can count on his expertise and skills.

Tom is also very helpful in assisting with medical calls. As our First Responders are doing their patient assessments, Tom has already moved furniture in the house to allow for the ambulance crew easy access with their gurney. Once the patient is transported Tom makes sure that everything that was moved, is put back in its’ exact place.

In closing we hope that his community and all volunteer firefighters will honor Tom for his continued work as a volunteer firefighter. Tom is somewhat of a quiet man, but when he speaks, it always improves on silence. The fire company respects and very much appreciates Tom's many years of dedicated service to our community.

Siskiyou County Supervisor Jim Cook and Heather Weldon of Premier West Bank
present Tom Davis with his award.
