Cement Water
Storage Tank Update
By:
Fire Chief Mary Cameron
October 2009,
Mt. Shasta Vista Fire Co. received a grant to place a 10,000 gallon cement water
storage tank at the stations on Roland Dr. and Juniper Dr. In an area that is
nearly devoid of water resources to fight fires, this was a significant grant to
receive. We thank the Siskiyou County Resource Advisory Committee for accepting
our grant and the Klamath National Forest for funding it.
It has been a long haul waiting for the funding to go through
plus several different type surveys that had to be completed before the work
could start. Then the weather got in the way. Finally in February 2011 we got
started on the construction project. The pads for the tanks were the first
necessity. They are 40' x 40' x 2' compacted gravel with driveways leading to
the tanks. The photos are before and after.
We have ordered all the materials for the tanks and the next
phase will begin in May 2011 with the building of the tanks.

Note from the web master: Water resources are an essential component of any
community fire safety plan. The grant project will significantly increase the
safety of the local residents and all of the area firefighters who risk their
lives to protect us. Volunteer Fire Chief Mary Cameron worked very hard to bring
this project to fruition. Show her your appreciation in an email to: msvvfc@yahoo.com.
