911 Dial 911 for fire, police, medical emergencies or if wild animals are endangering humans or domestic animals. Siskiyou County Sheriffs Department answers all 911 calls originating from a land line. California Highway Patrol answers all 911 calls made on cell phones. Please be prepared to tell the operator: the nature of the emergency, your location, your name and telephone number. The 911 operator will alert the appropriate agency after receiving this information, and will stay on the line until they are sure the responding agency has the information. Emergency systems are overloaded with non-emergency calls. Before dialing 911, please be sure your call is an emergency: a life-threatening situation or a crime in progress. Animals or disabled vehicles on the roadway are life-threatening situations. Drunk drivers are a crime in progress and a life-threatening situation. You just got home from vacation and discovered your house was burgled while you were gone - that's a crime, but not in progress, so please call the non-emergency number for the applicable police department.
